Sparring is a way to learn what engagement with an Attacker feels like with a reduced possibility for injury. During Sparring you should learn control of your strikes, practice functions and modifiers, as well as the other principles taught in Kenpo. Sparring is not the same as street fighting and should never be thought of as the same. Thinking they are the same will get you hurt in a real confrontation. Sparring does give you the adrenaline rush and helps train your mind to stay calm during an actual conflict. We highly recommend wearing the proper gear when Sparring.
